Back then.
It was first broadcast in 1981 and was entertainment like none of us here in the UK (and probably the world), had ever seen before. Although it did not register at the time, it was entertainment that would change television for ever. If you have forgotten just what was so special about it and how well crafted it was, download this short clip (featuring Joyce and Fay) and remind yourself.
Guests and Performers When you look down the list of the cast, semi regulars and even guests, it is imposable not to be surprised at how well most have done. With a few expectations they were largely unknowns when they joined the hill, but have gone on to build careers in the industry and not always in acting. Of course there are also a few who have sadly meet tragic ends and are now lost to us forever, like the actors who plated Sgt Esterhaus, JD LaRue, Capt. Ray Calletano and Jesus Martinez.
The brilliant team of writers have since produced some of finest television series and films of the last twenty years. For example, do you know that Miami Vice was originally conceived with Hill and Renko as its main characters and that the name 'Sonny Crockett' was first used on Hill Street Blues?
So why the website? In 2005 I was holidaying in the USA and had the chance to go to Chicago. I knew that the famous Hill Street Precinct House was there, having been involved in an internet petition to save it some years earlier. However to my amazement, I was unable to find any worthwhile information about the building on the internet.
What was even more incredible, was that I could not find any good Hill Street Blues dedicated websites. What little there was, seemed to have been neglected for years and the name Hill Street Blues - Net and Org, had never even been registered. The Hill Street Blues Cast seemed to have faired a little better, with numerous cast list available.
I have produced a few websites in my time (see here for examples if you are interseted), but decided that this is one that 'has to be done'. So in October 2005 I started on the Hill Street Blues TV Program Website. Late in 2006 Fox also (at last) produced one, but during 2008 it disappeared again and they seem to have no interest in this 'historical gem' they own.
Can you help?
Also if you have a website, you can help by giving us a link back to http://www.hillstreetblues.tv (it all helps with our search engine rating).
Lastly at this moment some of the images used on this site, have

If you are a 'perp' the only thing scarier than having 'a Belker' rip your lungs out, is to have two Belkers do it! OK Dog Breath? |
